Servicing & Repairs
We can service and repair your boiler
Your boiler is responsible for not only your central heating system but for the hot water that you use to bathe, cook and clean your clothes – making it a really important part of your home which would be hard to live without.
It’s for this reason that you will ideally have your boiler serviced every year, so that it stays in top working condition, keeps its efficiency and runs safely. Keeping to this service routine will save you money in the long run on increasing heating bills or unexpected problems or replacements.
Check your warranty
Annual servicing isn’t just our recommendation, it may also be a requirement of your warranty – so it’s worth checking this to ensure you keep to the maintenance levels required for it to remain valid, just in case you do have any big problems and you need your warranty, down the line.
What are the signs your boiler might need servicing?
If you haven’t had a service for a while or you are experiencing some inconsistencies with your heating and hot water supply, you may need to get your boiler serviced sooner rather than later. Some of the signs that it may need a service include:
- The pressure dial on the front dropping low. When the heating is off it should rest at around 1-1.5
- Your water suddenly being too hot or cold
- The boiler not turning on or off as required
- Noise – lots of clanking noises from the boiler are a sure sign it needs a service
- The pilot light going out or a lazy yellow flame
- Water dripping from the pipe that comes through the outside wall behind the boiler
- Excessive condensation
However, even if your boiler isn’t displaying any of these signs, it doesn’t mean that it is safe. Aside from keeping your boiler serviced regularly, you can also install a carbon monoxide alarm close to gas appliances, so they are there to give an early warning, if needed.
When’s the best time to have your boiler serviced?
Because it heats your home, most people only have work done on their boilers in the winter if it’s an emergency. If you’d like your boiler serviced, the best time would be during the Spring and Summer.
What happens during a boiler service?
There are requirements that will need to be met in order to uphold the needs of your warranty, and a key focus of servicing is ensuring the boiler’s safety and efficiency. The engineer will:
- Perform a pressure check
- Test the components are working as they should and adjust if needed
- Test the boiler is burning correctly and efficiently
- Check for signs of corrosion or leakage
- Test the flue and check the boiler isn’t emitting any gas
- Check the controls are working as they should
Once this work is complete, the engineer will give you a Service Certificate, which you will need to keep safe to show the company that issued your warranty, should you need to claim in the future.
Why is it important to use a professional?
To satisfy all the heating and safety needs of your home and the requirements of your warranty company, it’s important that you use a professional. But it’s not just about your warranty – gas is not something to cut corners with, so it’s really important that your boiler is worked on by someone who knows what they are doing.
Professionals will also understand how your boiler works with the rest of your plumbing system and will be able to detect faults easily and ensure that the right tools and replacement parts are sourced to make your boiler safe and ready to use again. No matter what type of boiler you have – whether it’s a combi, conventional or system boiler – using a professional engineer is the best option to ensure your safety and the boiler’s efficiency.
